A trip to Sacramento would not be complete without visiting one of its most historic restaurants. The Sheepherders Inn, originally built in 1913 as the Citrus Inn, is the oldest existing building in Rancho Cordova, CA. The Inn has been lovingly restored preserving the original craftsmanship mixed with a contemporary remodel that creates the setting for a memorable dining experience. Be sure to take a stroll through the history hall and view old period and Inn photographs from Sacramento Archives and Museum Collection Center. Sit back and relax in our fire place lounge, visit with friends or make new ones in our oversized horse shoe bar. The grand Dining Room, which as designed for comfort with large booths, gorgeous chandeliers and a roaring fire is a room truly worth of a fine meal. The Australian born Executive Chef, Stephen Sims has created an extraordinary menu that offers choices that are as creative as they are diverse. Every day he sears then slow roasts lamb shanks, marinates hand cut USDA Choice steaks and chicken while cooking duck comfit style. Early in the morning he kindles an almond wood fire that ads a subtle smoke while searing in the natural juices of the fresh fish, filet mignon and 22 oz porterhouse. Stephen and his team of chefs prepare marinades and dressings from scratch, hand cut vegetables, garden fresh salads and a variety of pastas. Home style desserts are made daily and are sure to please.
The bar, not to be overshadowed by the kitchen has developed a unique cocktail menu which includes adult beverages that either originated or were made famous in Northern California. These include exact replicas of the Irish Coffee, a San Francisco tradition perfected at the Buena Vista Café. The Gold Cadillac, made popular in the Sierra Foothills by a local favorite dive, Poor Reds is another classic. Of course the restaurant offers a full bar, full wine list featuring some local producers.
This is a popular spot for business lunches and dinners, so it is best to make reservations.
